PAP teeth whitening technology

Phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid (PAP)

If you are new to teeth whitening it is likely confusing to find a product that you know will generate safe and effective results whilst giving you the white smile you deserve. There are a number of products that use different ingredients as active whitening agent to bleach your teeth, but how can we tell if the main ingredients is safe and effective to use?

Most teeth whitening kits contain hydrogen peroxide, which is an active bleaching agent with oxidising properties designed to remove surface stains from the teeth. In the UK, at home whitening kits containing hydrogen peroxide are allowed only if they contain less than 0.1% peroxide. This relatively low level of hydrogen peroxide makes it safe to use, but it means you must spend a lot more time and many more treatments to get the desired whitening results from using the product.

A new and more modern non-hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent is PAP. In this post, we will discuss what PAP is, how the bleaching agent works, and if it is safe to use.

What is PAP teeth whitening?

PAP stands for phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid, the main ingredient in our VOLT London Professional Teeth Whitening Kit. PAP is a non-hydrogen peroxide that is clinically trialled and proven to whitening your teeth just as effectively as hydrogen peroxide, but without common side effects such as tooth sensitivity and gum irritation that hydrogen peroxide products can cause.

Up until recently, PAP has not been as widely used as bleaching agent as peroxides but is becoming increasingly more popular. However, the quality of the PAP used in different products vary widely so make sure that you buy a product that only use dental-grade ingredients and where the product is made in Europe.

How does PAP teeth whitening work?

PAP technology is a non-invasive tooth whitening agent which causes no damage to the enamel and contains elements for tooth oxidation that dissolves years of stains built up on the tooth enamel surface and behind the enamel. The PAP agent help penetrate through the three layers of the teeth to dissolve deeply rooted discoloration. Unlike hydrogen peroxide products, PAP both restores and whiten at all three levels of the tooth. This product is safe and compliant with UK and EU regulations.
